Using Programmable Thermostats To Strike A Heat/Humidity Balance

Programmable thermostats are one of the most energy-efficient ways to keep your home’s heat and humidity comfortably in balance. It’s also an extremely cost-effective means of keeping your home’s energy efficiency maximized and energy bills minimized.

Some of the major advantages of programmable thermostats are:

  • The ability to set the system to turn on and warm up the home before everyone wakes up and again, before they return home at the end of the day. This conserves energy by only using heat on an “as needed” basis.
  • While you’re away for the weekend or on extended vacations, programmable thermostats usually have a “hold” or “vacation” feature, with some of the newer models offering voice or phone command regulation options.
  • They help keep your home energy efficient, so your heating costs are better regulated

Many programmable thermostats can accept up to six settings per day, and various days of the week can be programmed uniquely, according to your weekly routine. Some models are linked to humidifiers and dehumidifiers, which is a huge help in making sure all your systems work together.

If your thermostat is not linked to a humidifier, it’s possible that the house may become too humid, if you set the temperature too low for times that you’re away.

Some problems caused by too much humidity may include condensation on the home’s interior windows; There’s also a possibility water may condense in your attic or on hidden cold wall spaces. These are not only an inconvenience, but can cause much more costly issues. Maintaining the proper balance between temperature and humidity is very important.

It’s important to pay attention to outdoor weather in order to best regulate the indoor temperature. For example, if the forecast calls for a temperature drop over a period of hours, it’s wise to limit the amount of humidity you introduce into the air of your home.

These simple solutions can make a big impact on your comfort and energy bills. Please don’t hesitate to call on the professionals at Arpi’s with any questions. 2011 marks the 48th year that we’ve proudly been providing home comfort solutions.
