Fall into Allergy Relief by Improving Indoor Air Quality

Fall into Allergy Relief by Improving Indoor Air QualityAs surely as the seasons themselves will change, the transition to fall can make things temporarily miserable for those who suffer from allergies. One of the best ways to provide relief is to improve the indoor air quality (IAQ) inside your home. Here are some effective ways to increase IAQ and make life better for anyone with allergies.

  • Boost ventilation: Increase the amount of ventilation to ensure a steady supply of fresh air and consistent removal of airborne contaminants. One of the easiest ways to boost ventilation is by opening doors and windows when outdoor temperatures permit. If you need even more ventilation, you can install whole-house ventilators that can keep a steady circulation of air moving into and out of your home.
  • Change HVAC air filters: Put new, clean air filters in your heating system. These filters remove a significant amount of the particulates in the air that circulates through the HVAC system. Dirty filters can’t effectively remove these allergens and can hinder the overall performance of your heating equipment.
  • Clean indoors frequently: Dust and vacuum inside your home frequently, usually at least once a week. Make sure that sources of allergens and contaminants, such as trash, are taken out of the house regularly. Clean rugs, furniture and other dust-attracting objects at least every month. Wash and change bedding every week.
  • Install air purification and filtration systems: If you need a higher level of air filtration than what your HVAC system can provide, install an air purification or filtration device. These systems divert the airflow from your HVAC equipment through high-quality filters that can remove substantial amounts of allergens and particulates. HEPA filtration systems, for example, can remove almost all airborne contaminants and particulates from your indoor air.
