I have two furnaces; do I need 2 air-conditioning units?

Tell us where the comfort issue is and at what time.  Is it during dinner?  At bedtime?

If it’s at bedtime and all the bedrooms are upstairs – it really is best to do the whole  house.

You will benefit from the pricing by saving on labor and it’s easier than a single air-conditioner system because less load (hot air) is being transferred to the 2nd floor.

If we are cooling the 2nd floor to 70 degrees – all the heat that moves upstairs affects the thermostat. This can have quite an effect with vaulted andopen space floor plans.  That thermostat will be calling for cooling more often than if you maintained a proper setting on the main floor.  This provides you with whole home comfort.  Oddly enough, it’s also more energy efficient to run two air-conditioners rather than one.

How quiet are your A/C units?

The outside noise that comes from the condenser is 64 to 74 decibels (dB).

A hair dryer at 3 meters is 80 dB.

The interior noise of the average car at 100 km is 70 dB.

Our supplier, Lennox, offers the quietest A/C units on the market with readings as low as 64 dB.

 Options to further reduce noise.

Shave an additional 5 dB on compressor noise by using a “sound blanket”.  It’s a lead wrap that goes inside the compressor unit you have in your yard.

Does the A/C sit on a pad or brackets?

It really depends on the location of the A/C compressor.

If it’s on the side of the home and there is a big elevation change from the front to the back of the house, we recommend brackets.

If it’s a newer dwelling, we also recommend brackets due to ground settlement.

If the yard area is flat, a pad is perfect.  We can hire a contractor to pour a pad if you are looking for an upscale look and/or want to match some existing hard landscaping/patio blocks etc.  Arpi’s recommends a particular anti-vibration pad specifically designed for A/C units.

You can choose where you want the outside compressor unit to be installed up to a point.  We have 50 feet to work with.  There is an optimal place, and we will go over that with you.  Always consider walkways, the lawnmower, wheel barrels, the kids’ access in/out and that type of thing.
