Most Common Plumbing Problems and How to Fix ThemWhen you have a serious plumbing problem in your Alberta home, you need to call a plumber for help. However, there are some common plumbing problems that may not need the help of a pro. Here are some of these common problems, and the fix for them.

1. Dripping Faucet

If your faucet is dripping, then your water bills are going up without a good reason. Putting a stop to that drip is important. Most of the time a leaky faucet is due to a worn out washer on the valve seat. Replace this, and the leak should stop.

2. Clogged Drain Trap

Are your drains running slowly? This usually happens because something is blocking the trap under the drain. After turning off the water, undo the trap and remove the clog. If that doesn't work, consider sending a snake down the drain to loosen the clog further down the line.

3. Low Water Pressure

If your water pressure isn't where it should be, consider removing lime scale buildup from the faucet or showerhead. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you may need the help of a professional plumber. You could have a hidden leak or another problem causing you to lose pressure.

4. Running Toilet

If your toilet is running, you could be wasting as much as liters per day. To put a stop to this problem, check the float, fill tube, flapper chain and the flapper itself. If these appear to be set correctly and working as they should, you may need a new toilet.

5. Clogged Bathroom Sink Drain

All of the hair and other debris you send down the bathroom sink will eventually cause a clog. This common plumbing problem isn't hard to fix. First, remove the spring tab from the drain plug adjustment arm, then remove the ball valve from the trap. Finally, pull up the plug in the sink to remove the debris.
