You have noticed cat fur accumulating around the legs of your kitchen chairs and a white layer of dust settling on all your wooden furniture more than usual. You start to wonder if it is time to change your furnace filter.
Exactly when are you supposed to change your furnace filter?
Here are the reasons and indications that will offer you a clue that it is time.
On average there are three types of filters that should be replaced on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. They are the basic, fiberglass and paper furnace filters. If you have an electrostatic or "high efficiency particulate air” (HEPA) filter then you should replace them every two to four months.
However, not all people's homes or daily habits are identical. If you do own a number of pets, or there are smokers in your home it is recommended you should change the filter more often than the average time frame indicated.
Replacing your filter is the simplest way to maintain clean air in your home and your heating system to remain as efficient as possible.
