Room By Room Comfort With Ductless Mini Splits

Phil Laprairie

Ductless mini splits are a great energy-efficient option. These types of systems are growing in popularity for several reasons.

  • Ductless mini splits are easily used where, as the name implies, no ductwork exists. Therefore, many homeowners choose them for additions for cooling and heating where using ductwork is not possible or desirable.
  • Because ducts are not used, energy loss is significantly less. In conventional systems, energy loss from ductwork makes up almost 30 percent of the total energy used.
  • The systems are flexible. It’s possible to hook four air-handling units to the main outdoor unit. Its flexibility allows homeowners to adjust the system to fit their home’s heating and cooling needs.
  • It also offers maximum efficiency. A mini split essentially acts as “zoned” heating and cooling, with each space using a separate thermostat. Therefore, you’re only paying for conditioned air when you need it.
  • In addition, because mini splits are potentially installable in almost any location, they offer flexible positioning. They can attach to ceilings, drop-ceilings, or walls, and floor models are available.
  • Ductless mini splits are also easy to install for two reasons. First, connection between units requires only a small hole in walls. Second, to power the units, electrical cables can run as much as 50 feet apart, making it possible for a mini split to condition rooms pretty far away from the main unit.

Due to ductless mini splits’ efficiency, flexibility, zoning capabilities, and installation, homeowners get a host of great benefits, along with enhanced comfort in every room of the home.
