Important Facts About Programmable Thermostats

Phil Laprairie

Programmable thermostats are a great way to save money on energy costs. Consider the following important information regarding these advanced comfort controls so that you can maximize the benefits of using this type of system in your home.

Selecting programmable thermostats is not a difficult task, but you should know that some work differently than others. For example, there are models that allow you to set the seven days of the week according to your schedule. Other models allow for a different setting on the weekend. Depending on your schedule, one may work better for you.

It is important that installation is done properly. Thermostats should be placed in an area away from vents, windows, doorways or other places that could hinder the effectiveness of the temperature reading. This will improve the temperature balance throughout your home.

Also, we recommend that you hire a qualified HVAC contractor to install your thermostats, to ensure that the wiring is done properly and that the old mercury thermostat is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

One of the best ways to save money on heating is to use multiple thermostats. This method, called zoning, allows you to keep certain areas of your home at a different temperature than others. You will waste less energy and save on heating bills by keeping those areas that are used less often at lower temperatures.
